You’ve found your sunny vacation destination and you’re already looking forward to spending some time relaxing in the sun. But are you a senior traveler and have you arranged your senior travel insurance?

Travellers who are over 64 years old can often encounter difficulty obtaining travel insurance. Many insurance providers are less keen to offer travel insurance to people over the age of 64 for a number of reasons. They don’t want to take unnecessary risks. They would like nothing more than to sell insurance policies and have nobody make any claims on them. But senior travelers present additional risks due to their age, possibly declining health and maybe pre-existing medical conditions.

So what are the options open to the senior traveler? The first thing to do is not to leave it too late. Its worth making a start in looking around for your travel insurance policy as soon as you possibly can. The longer you leave it the harder it will be to find the policy that you need.

Start with your existing insurance provider. If you already have life insurance cover or maybe health insurance then approach your provider and ask about their senior travel insurance policies. And if you have a pre-existing medical condition find out if they provide pre-existing medical condition travel insurance.

It is always prudent to shop around. Even if you are provided with quotes from your current insurance provider take the figures and look around for a cheaper alternative. There are some experienced senior insurance providers who may be able to beat the prices quoted by other, non-specialist providers.

Something to consider once you’ve found a policy and provider that you are happy with is multi-trip travel insurance. Save yourself the time and trouble it takes to find an insurance policy by taking out a multi-trip policy that will cover your next holiday as well.

Whatever you do, always be honest and open with your prospective travel insurance provider. Its never a good idea to lie about your age and its important to provide complete details of your health status and any pre-existing medical conditions that you might have. And have a great holiday.
